June marks the first month of actual summer in the UK, though this doesn’t guarantee blue skies and sunny days. If you want to avoid a chilly start to the summer season, here is where you can experience great temperatures in June from different countries around the world.

June is my favorite month to travel to Europe. The weather is generally sunny, and the schools will not be going on summer holiday until late July. Therefore, you will find that the beaches are less crowded and the prices are generally lower than during July and August.

Here are 10 Summer Destinations to plan in 2026:

1. Mykonos, Greece

With only a three-hour flight from Athens, Mykonos is one of the most popular islands in the Cyclades. Mykonos is a haven for culture lovers, with plenty of charming village bases to explore, such as Ano Mera and the history-rich Mykonos Town. Mykonos also has some of the finest beaches in Greece, offering both a vibrant party atmosphere and several relaxing white-sand areas, such as Paradise Beach, Super Paradise Beach, and Argari Beach.

As Greece continues to be one of the hottest summer vacation spots in Europe, there are many ways to stay cool, from taking a dip in the Aegean Sea to enjoying a cool ouzo at a local beachside taverna.

2. Málaga, Spain

If you’re looking for a place to spend your summer beach days, look no further than Málaga, Spain! Malagueta Beach is certainly one of my favorites, but Raven Beach (in a less busy part of town) is also great! Málaga has a wide variety of art galleries and museums, including exhibits dedicated to the famous artist Pablo Picasso, who was born in Málaga. You’ll definitely want to check out the Picasso Museum, which contains many of his works, ranging in style from neoclassical to various other types of art. 

The Old Town area offers excellent shopping opportunities with a number of modern retail shops and cafes with rooftop seating to enjoy your favorite drink, such as Sangria! The Alcazaba is also located in the Old Town! This amazing structure was built back in the 11th century under Islamic rule and provides incredible views of the city and the nearby port area.

3. Athens, Greece

Athens and its different ancient sites are best visited in June, when average daytime temperatures are around the mid-’20s (Celsius), making it very pleasant to walk around the ruins in the sunshine. There are, in fact, so many ruins to check off your list, including the famous Acropolis on a high hill, the Ancient Agora, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. You can also take time to get lost in the city’s cobbled streets or enjoy the dry weather in green spaces such as the Athens National Garden.

4. Palermo, Italy

Palermo, Sicily, has an ideal climate, with average temperatures around 22 degrees Celsius and highs of up to 25 degrees Celsius. This is a perfect time of year for visitors to enjoy sunny days, walk around the city, shop in local markets, and take in breathtaking views along the coast.

For those who love relaxing at the beach and experiencing Sicily’s rich culture during their visit, the Vucciria market offers numerous opportunities. Visitors can have a great day at one of the nearby beautiful beaches or enjoy the hospitality of locals.

5. Madrid, Spain

The city of Madrid has a variety of summer activities, including some fantastic museums, neighborhood fiestas, and delicious restaurants. It is also a very inexpensive destination, thanks to low-cost lodging and numerous direct flights between the UK and Spain.

If you’re looking for locally produced food, you can visit any one of the city’s many mercados; during the day, the stalls sell fresh, local products, while at night many of them turn into restaurants. You might want to avoid the tourist areas by visiting Mercado de Vallehermoso, Mercado de San Fernando, or Mercado de Chamberí.

6. Marseille, France

Travel to France’s Mediterranean coast during off-peak times for more comfort than during the peak summer season (June). Temperatures in June hover around 21 degrees Celsius (71 degrees Fahrenheit), but highs can reach up to 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit). This makes it comfortable to see the bustling port area of Marseille and take in sites from centuries ago in the city’s Old Town. Minimal precipitation means sunny days that are ideal for sitting outside, dining at restaurants on the water, or taking walks along the coastline.

This is a great time to visit your local markets full of fresh produce from the region, visit the calanques (rocky coves along the coastline), and participate in outdoor cultural activities like eating local bouillabaisse with a view of the sea under an evening sky. Marseille also offers great value compared to other Mediterranean cities. Flight prices from the UK to Marseille in June start at just £179.

7. Naples, Italy

Come visit the birthplace of the world’s best pizza! Spend some time wandering among the ancient ruins of Rome, enjoying authentic Neapolitan food at the many waterfront eateries available, and taking day trips to nearby Pompeii and the beautiful Amalfi Coast.

June is a wonderful time to enjoy al fresco dining and drinks because it is warm enough to eat outside, and June hotel rates are still much lower than July/August peak season hotel rates.

Be aware that the first Sunday in June (Festa della Repubblica) is a national holiday and large numbers of locals will be out that weekend so it could be very crowded if you are here then. If you plan to come that weekend, book your accommodation well in advance.

8. Antalya, Turkey

Antalya is an attractive Turkish coastal city ideal for visiting in June due to the warm weather, no rainy days, and the ease of exploring the historical markets and ruins of the Roman Empire (without it being too hot!). June is also the beginning of high season and you will find great deals on hotels as well as flights because the average ticket from the UK to Antalya in June is £164 according to KAYAK.

The coastline of Antalya is the main attraction and offers some of Turkey’s best beaches with golden sand and clear water from The Turquoise Coast. You will also find many excellent day trips from Antalya, combining relaxation / recreation with culture. I would recommend the impressive Lycian Rock Tombs and the beautiful town of Fethiye on the coast of the Aegean Sea for two day trips to consider.

9. Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul in June has a temperature of approximately 21°C and very little rainfall. In addition, Istanbul is host to the Istanbul International Music Festival, one of the largest classical music festivals in the world, lasting three weeks and being held in numerous historic sites, including the Sureyya Opera House and Hagia Irene Museum.

You can have a great family outing by taking to the water to explore Istanbul while enjoying the beautiful June weather. There are cruises from Istanbul’s port to the Prince’s Islands, all of which are car-free, and you can take a horse-drawn carriage around them to view the rich history of the area.

In addition, you can find plenty of beautiful beaches on the outskirts of Istanbul along the Black Sea and Sea of Marmara. Also, be sure to spend some time exploring Sultanahmet, which is home to the famous Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.

10. Skiathos, Greece

Skiathos bursts into life during its summer with clear water ideal for swimming and doing everything water-related without the summer heat that comes with July and August.

June offers very little rainfall and lots of sunshine, so June is the perfect time to explore the quaint towns, picturesque beaches, and fun culture on this beautiful island.

Skiathos has the perfect weather whether you want to relax on a sandy beach and soak up some sun or enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean countryside.
